Increase your Browsing Speed in Firefox

. Thursday, June 25, 2009

Do you like to browse a lot?
I do.

Hope you are not pulling your hair because of slow speed.

I hate slow net speed as much as you do. I open a minimum of 6 tabs in my browser. I really hate it when I get very low speed. But the fact is that it has helped me to come up with this setting.

How does this work?

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. Enabling pipelining will make several request to the server at one time, which really speeds up page loading. Whenever your browser receives some information it waits for some time.

This procedure sets this time to '0'.

Speed up your Firefox browser and load pages faster than earlier:

>>Type 'about:config' into the address bar/url bar and press Enter

>>Scroll down and look for the following entries:

# network.http.pipelining

# network.http.proxy.pipelining

# network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

>>Alter the entries as follows:

# Double click on 'network.http.pipelining' it will change its value to 'true'

# Double click on 'network.http.proxy.pipelining' it will also change its value to 'true'

# Double click on 'network.http.pipelining.maxrequests' it will open a 'Enter integer value' dialog box set some number like '30'

>>Last but the most important step right-click anywhere and create a new 'Integer'

>>Name it 'nglayout.initialpaint.delay'

>>Set the value to '0'

You have done it restart your Fire Fox.

Tip:
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages 2-3 times faster now.

Internet Explorer as fast as Fire Fox

.

Are you an Internet Explorer fan but envy Firefox for its speed? Don't worry guys just think what does Firefox do that increases its speed and you'll find a solution for yourself.

Don't want to think??

Doesn't matter!!!

Well then your a normal person.

What Firefox does is that it creates multiple connections to the server. So when one connection goes down you are still on, the other connections keep the data flowing.

Follow these instructions:

>>Press 'start' and 'R' button on your keyboard

>>Type 'regedit' and then OK

>>Once you get in the registry, navigate to key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER
'

>>Look for 'Software' and double click on it

>>Search for 'Microsoft' and double click on it

>>Scroll down to 'Windows' and double click on it

>>Go to 'CurrentVersion' and double click on it

>>Find for 'InternetSettings' and double click on it

>>Right click on the right pane and create a new 'DWRD'

>>Name it as 'MaxConnectionsPerServer'

>>Double click on the 'DWORD' you just created

>>Set the value (higher the no, the better the speed eg:90)

>>Create another 'DWORD' and name it 'MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server'

>>Put a high value as mentioned above

>>Restart your Internet Explorer and you are done

Tip: If you have a Broadband connection you'll love this stuff.

Open Web pages faster by increasing your cache

This is a cool information for those who use Internet Explorer
If you find your Internet Explorer to be slow in browsing pages the following will prove to be quite handy.

How is the setting going to help me?

The following setting increase the size of the Temporary Internet files cache on your Internet Explorer.

Whenever you load a page few temporary files are sent to your computer.

For eg: If there is an applet or an image on the page, the same is saved in a temporary file on your computer. So the next time you visit the same page such temporary files need not be saved again giving you better browsing speed.

Please note:
By default your Internet Explorer8 saves up to 600megabytes for such temporary files. This space may vary with different versions of Internet Explorer. It so happens that sometimes due to malicious software or certain clean up software this space gets restricted to 150-200megabytes.

To increase the Temporary Internet Files cache:

>>Go to the 'Tools menu' in your Internet Explorer

>>Click on 'Internet Options'

>>This will open an 'Internet Options' dialogue box

>>In the 'General tab' look for the 'Browsing history' section

>>Click on 'Settings' in the 'Browsing history' section

>>This will open a 'Temporary Internet Files and History Settings' dialog box

>>Look for 'Check for newer versions of stored pages:' section

>>Click on the 'Automatically' button

>>Set the amount of 'Disk space to use' to at least 250 megabytes (MB).

>>Click 'OK'.

Disadvantage:
The increased cache leads to a large number of unwanted temporary files which eventually slows down your computer.

Well I have a have a solution for this in my upcoming post
